Now that Jordan has entered his "senior" years,
I've tried to take certain steps to ensure that he
has the best quality of life possible for as long as possible.
I've noticed that keeping the weight "off" has
become a challenge and I really have to work at it. If you
see us out, rather than offer him a treat, why not make a
donation to the NSPCA in Jordan’s name? Thanks!
Jordan’s diet consists of ONLY lamb based products.
Corn has ALWAYS irritated his skin (it can increase body
temperature and cause "hot" spots) and we avoid
it at all cost.. Because of his hip "dysplasia" he
takes a drug called Glucosamine as needed. It helps lubricate
the joints and increase his range of motion. He’s
been blessed since moving to Las Vegas with wonderful veterinary
care, including Sahara
Pines Animal Hospital .
Several years ago I put Jordan on "antioxidant" tablets
that we get through the local distributor of a company
called "Oxyfresh ." I
suggest you check them out. I’ve also had him
on Glucosamine for about five years and it is wonderful
for joint lubrication and relieve (I take it myself!) Recently,
Jordan has begun some more aggressive joint and pain therapy
but I continue to avoid giving him any pain drugs or narcotics.
I realize that we as pet owners can only
do so much to keep our "friends" with us for
their all-too-brief time here. I hope that Jordan stays
with us for many years to come. However, I will not prolong
his life selfishly if I know he’s not healthy and
happy. As long as he keeps wagging that tail, I'll hang
in there with him!
When the day comes for me to say goodbye
to my best friend, I know that he'll be going to a better
place. It’s
a place called the Rainbow
Bridge . Do not, my pet loving friends, think
for one second that I will grieve any more or any less
than those of you who have experienced the same loss. Our
love for our pets is our common bond. A bond that we, as
pet lovers will only truly understand.
Someone once asked me why God would put our four-legged
friends on this Earth for such a brief period. I think
He wants us to respect, embrace and cherish ALL life for
whatever time we have with our friends, our family and
our pets. Thanks to all of you for making me and my "boy" a
part of your lives! |
