Summary:
Well! This is it!! The final day and the final trip!!
After 900 miles and 16 hours yesterday, Dad is working
on about 4 hours sleep in the last 24 hours. But,
he seems to be hanging in there. We pulled back on
to I-70 out of Silverthorne for the final 600+ miles
home. The skies were clear and the stars were brilliant
in the Rocky Mountain sky. Out here it's just the
truckers, Dad and me. We made it to Grand Junction,
Colorado around 4:00AM and gassed up and took a quick
potty break. Dad coffeed up and we were off.
We were only about 1/2 west of Grand Junction when
Dad hit the proverbial "wall." We pulled
over at the closest rest stop and he climbed in back
to take a snooze. However, after only 5 minutes,
nature called and he was up and out of the SUV. When
he returned a few minutes later he was wide-awake
and we were off and running!
We made south central Utah around daybreak. Man,
what a beautiful part of the country. (It was pouring
rain and pitch-black when we came through here last
year.) We gassed up one final in southwest Utah and
we made the Nevada border at 10:19. Traffic was flying
and we made it back to the TV station in just under
1 hour! Dad picked up his paycheck.... we took one
final "welcome home" picture and we headed
for the house.
When Dad's head hit the pillow later that (Thursday)
afternoon, he was down for 15 STRAIT HOURS! What
a trip! Look for the final summary/wrap-up and special "Thank
you" section in the next few days. In the meantime:
Thanks for following along and may God Bless You
and our great Country!
Fondly,
Jordan
