Wow!
What a day! Almost 730 miles the first day! Way to
go Dad! We left our house under beautiful clear skies
and headed for San Francisco by way of Death Valley
and Yosemite (the LONG way!) We made it to Death Valley
Junction at 6:15 AM. Death Valley at daybreak is simply
spectacular. Just check out the pictures. We stoped
at famous Zabriskie Point (Yikes! NO DOGS ALLOWED!)
and took a few cool pictures.
Then, on to Furnace Creek Inn (temporarily closed),
the beautiful Sand Dunes and then to Hwy 136 to 395.
We gassed up in Lone Pine on 395 and from there traveled
through Mammoth Lakes, Mono Lake and turned on to
Hwy 120 and made it to the Tioga Pass entrance of
Yosemite at 11:00 AM. Pretty good timing!
This leg of the trip was quite a trip down memory
lane for Dad. He was here in 1969 with the YMCA.
(Camping that is!) Yosemite!!! I don't know if there
is a more beautiful place on Earth. Just look at
some of those pictures! And, since it's a National
Park, it's "pet friendly." (I just had
to stay on a leash on the paved areas.)
Dad had to detour to get over to the famous "Tunnel
Entrance" on Hwy 41 to the world famous "Valley
of Ice." This is the most photographed spots
in all of Yosemite. It's just breathtaking! The detour
in Yosemite cost us over 2 hours and we didn't arrive
in San Francisco until right at sunset, around 6:45
PM. We made it to the Marriot Fisherman's Wharf via
Hwy 41 to 49, 49 to 140, 140 to 5, 5 to 580 then
on to 880, over the San Mateo Bridge (beautiful)
to 101 then up to the Embarkadero and right down
to Fisherman's Wharf. Wow! The place was really buzzing
on a Friday evening. But, for me? Get checked into
the room.... eat a bite... and I'm toast!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz.
Check out those pictures and I'll talk to you tomorrow
... from??? Just wait and see!
Fondly,
Jordan
